We have many other customers on Business Central. If you'd like to talk to a customer in your own industry, get in touch and we'll find someone you can call.

Is our solution right for you?

Our solution is the best fit when your business is already anchored in your ERP, your product range is large and your pricing isn't simple. If you're just starting out and the webshop needs to "be everything", there are other solutions that will suit you better.

When we present our e-commerce solution, we prefer to do it with your own data from Business Central. That way you can evaluate every part of the solution, both the admin systems and the customer-facing ones, and get a real basis for your decision.

You can also get a demo with a demo company in Business Central, but in our experience the conversation is much more concrete and effective - for both of us - when it's your own business data we're going through.

Your Business Central data, put to work

You maintain your data in Business Central as usual. We mirror it to our platform, and from that copy, item master data, stock levels, customer data and prices flow through to wherever they're needed in the solution.

Items, customers, prices, invoices and open orders are updated every hour. If something needs to be faster, we can agree a different frequency or add webhooks, and if you need it, the webshop can be adapted to look things up directly in Business Central.

The solution consists of

The core platform

The standard integration with Dynamics 365 Business Central, the data mirror, and user management with single sign-on and two-factor login.

Applications

Chainbox PIM (where you enrich your products with copy, images and data that don't belong in Business Central) and Sales Insight. They're shared by all customers and updated continuously.

The webshop

Chainbox Webshop on Umbraco CMS. It runs as a separate, dedicated instance just for you, which is why it can be customised.

It's standard software. If you run the standard version, the webshop is updated automatically. If you have it customised, it's still the same standard software, and it comes with an update agreement that brings your solution up to the latest version 4 times a year.

Hosting and maintenance

You buy licences for one complete solution, which we host and run for you. We take care of hosting in the EU, monitoring and ongoing updates. The solution runs on our side, but the data is always yours.

If you'd rather have a different front end, such as Shopify, Shopware or Magento, the Chainbox platform, integration and PIM can sit behind it. Your own agency builds the front end and pulls data through our API, so you choose your own partner.

Sales and customers

B2B, B2C or both

The webshop is set up around who you sell to: an open catalogue with checkout, open without checkout, or login only. Product views, prices, variants and add to basket are controlled with settings, so you don't need to be technical.

Customer-specific pricing

Prices are calculated from the price structure in Business Central. For a logged-in visitor linked to a customer account, the webshop calculates the price from the customer and the item, and every combination of price, price list and discount is covered by the standard integration.

If people can buy without logging in, you set up a default customer number from Business Central in the webshop. That customer's setup controls the prices for everyone who isn't logged in.

Customer login and self-service

Create logins and link them to customer accounts, so customers buy at their own prices. In their account area they have favourites lists, open and previous orders and invoices, including those created in Business Central through other channels. Orders from logged-in customers are transferred to Business Central on the right customer account, exactly as if they'd been entered there.

Customer purchase history from Business Central

If a customer has so far bought through a sales rep or over the phone, those items are already on the list of the customer's most-bought products and can be reordered the first time the customer logs in.

The webshop as a sales rep tool

Staff in your order department and your field sales reps can get a sales rep login with extended access. With it, they switch between customers from Business Central and place orders on the customer's behalf. It's also where they introduce new customers to the webshop.

Multiple languages, markets and sites

Several shops, languages or countries can run in the same solution, or you can have several installations sharing the same PIM. Product copy can be translated into as many languages as you like, and fields marked for translation can be machine-translated as a first draft.

Content and products

Product lists right in your content

With a set of extensions to Umbraco, you set up product lists based on filters and place them wherever you like in your content. The lists update themselves as new items are added and old ones are discontinued.

Guides and brand pages linked to products

Build guides, brand pages, size guides or other content, and link it to products directly or via category, brand or tags. The content is then shown automatically on the product pages it belongs to.

Categories maintain themselves

Categories without active items aren't shown. When the last item in a category is discontinued, the category disappears on its own.

In PIM you can build one or more category hierarchies and choose which parts the webshop shows.

Large product ranges and variants

The solution is built for large catalogues, both when there are few categories with many variants and when there are thousands of items in a deep category hierarchy.

Product data in PIM

In PIM you can bulk-update precise selections of your product range and extend the product model with your own fields. Views, filters and forms adapt to the way you work with your products, and changes show up quickly on the webshop.

Customer-specific product ranges

Control which items each customer or customer type can see and buy, such as products that require a certification or may only be sold in certain markets. The rules are set up directly in the solution.

Search and upselling

Search and filters

Free-text search finds products, categories and content, even when the customer misspells something. On the product lists you choose which filters customers can use, and filters without values are hidden automatically.

Synonyms and filters at every level

Set up synonyms and keywords, so search also finds products by the words your customers use.

Filters can also be controlled per level in the category hierarchy and for the product lists you've added to your content.

Related and popular products

Accessories, replacements and related products are set up in PIM. On top of that, we continuously calculate from invoicing in Business Central which products are popular and which are bought together. This is used to show popular and related products on category and product pages.

Feeds for ads

The webshop keeps your Google Merchant feed up to date for product ads, and you decide how often it's generated and where it's stored.

Punch-out for large customers

Many larger companies and public organisations buy through their own procurement system. With punch-out (OCI 3, 4 and 5 and cXML), the webshop connects directly to it, so the customer can find your products and send the basket back for approval in their own system.

Ongoing updates

New features are rolled out to everyone. Standard solutions are updated automatically, and solutions we've customised have an update agreement with 4 updates a year. See more in the questions at the bottom.

How the Business Central integration works

The integration is our extension for Business Central, Chainbox eCommerce. It's installed in your Business Central and gives us read access to the data the webshop needs. Business Central picks up the web orders itself using its job queue.

Setup with a wizard

The extension has a wizard that guides you through the setup. For it to work out of the box, an app registration has to be created in Microsoft Entra and connected to Business Central. This requires a user with administrator rights in Business Central and someone who can create app registrations in your Entra, often your IT department.

No passwords to share or renew

We connect using federated credentials. That means there's no password to send us and renew when it expires. You create the app registration in your own Entra, decide what permissions it has, and allow the Chainbox platform to sign in with it. If you want to close access, you delete it in Entra.

The order

The web order is first placed in the journal and then created as a sales order in Business Central. This happens automatically. The extension adds a set of tiles to the sales order processor's Role Center, showing how many web orders are being processed and whether any need manual handling. If an order fails on its way from journal to sales order, you'll see it there, and it can be corrected in the journal and imported again.

If orders need to be handled differently in your business, your Business Central partner can build on the events the extension raises when a journal becomes a sales order, without changing our extension.

What comes with the order

Besides the items, the order includes the delivery address and comments. Shipping and other fees set up in the webshop are added as item lines. If you like, a chosen parcel shop can be set as the delivery address and the carrier added to the order.

Most B2B customers buy on invoice. If the customer pays by card, the transaction ID comes with the order, and the capture is set up at the right point in the order process in Business Central. That's your ERP provider's area - we hand over the order at the journal.

Orders from customers who aren't logged in go to the default customer by default, with the address written on the order, but this can be changed.

Prices

Both the old price setup with sales prices and line discounts and the new price lists are supported. Customer price groups, customer discount groups, campaigns, quantity discounts, invoice discounts and currency are included.

The price from the webshop is carried over to the order. If you want Business Central to recalculate it, a check can easily be added when the journal becomes a sales order. Differences can occur, though, for example if the job queue has been paused while other jobs were running, or if a price has a cut-off date.

Test without touching production

The extension has a checkbox for sandbox environments, so a sandbox can fetch web orders without them being marked as fetched. That way you can test without affecting production. If you need it, the webshop can also have a test environment that's separate from production.

Why we mirror data

The webshop needs to be fast and stable, even when lots of customers are shopping at the same time and pricing is complicated. Business Central's API is good and fast, but it isn't built to respond to every single click in a webshop, so the webshop works from the data mirror.

If Business Central doesn't respond

The webshop keeps running, and web orders wait in a queue until Business Central can receive them again.

If data transfer is down for a longer period, products, customers and prices in the webshop can get out of step with Business Central, and we monitor for that. Failed jobs are retried automatically, and we have fixed playbooks for the known problems.

Which items and customers are included

By default, all items and customers are included. If you want to leave some out, you set the "Blocked from Chainbox" field on them. The field comes with the extension. It can also be reversed in the extension's settings, so only items and customers marked "Included in Chainbox" are included.

If you delete an item or customer in Business Central, it's removed on our side too.

Stock and delivery date

The webshop shows available inventory from Business Central, and for items on their way via a purchase order, it can show the expected delivery date.

Stock per location isn't included as standard, but the integration can be extended so locations are included too.

New versions of Business Central

Microsoft updates Business Central continuously, and we develop the extension in step with the new versions.

Moving to Business Central from another ERP?

PROcare, Fairpoint, DALI, M. Wilhelmsen, Sprit & Co and many other customers moved from NAV and other ERP systems to Business Central and kept their e-commerce solution running throughout the switch.

That's possible because PIM, customer logins and the webshop live on our platform, not in your ERP. While you're working on your Business Central project, we set up a test environment alongside the solution you run today, and you test until you're ready. Ahead of go-live we do a content freeze and move the content across, and at go-live we switch from the old solution to the new one without any webshop downtime.

Questions

It costs nothing, and you're not committing to anything.

The demo can be done on a sandbox environment in Business Central. Once the extension is installed and the app registration is set up, we set up the demo with your own items, customers and prices.

In the demo you'll see the whole platform: user administration, PIM, Sales Insight, Webshop Management and the webshop your customers will shop in.

If you decide not to go ahead, we delete the demo and your data.

Yes. We have quite a few solutions running with Business Central on-premises, in different versions, so we usually have something that can be set up, or that can get there relatively easily.

It's always done in dialogue with your ERP provider, because it depends on what your environment looks like, which object ranges are available and how your licences are set up. We've talked a lot with ERP providers over the years, so we have good experience making it work.

Yes. Logins are unique and linked to a customer account, so logins can be created for the customer's employees per email address. Your own sales reps and customer service staff can get access with sales rep privileges and switch between customer accounts when they're logged in via SSO.

No. The integration is set up through configuration. If the webshop needs customising, we do it. If you choose a different front end, you can use your own partner.

If you run the standard version, you follow our ongoing releases. New features and fixes go out when they're ready, and the webshop is updated automatically.

If we've customised your webshop, your customisations have to work with every new version, so it comes with an update agreement that brings your solution up to the latest version 4 times a year. That replaces the big upgrade projects that would otherwise come along every few years.

The webshop, PIM and customer logins stay. We set up the new ERP alongside, and you can test before you switch.
