Webshop, PIM and ERP integration in one solution

Chainbox brings data platform, PIM and webshop together in one solution. You get control of product data, prices and integrations - and a solid foundation for running your e‑commerce.

The problem we solve

Our solutions are built for companies whose business is rooted in the ERP and has depth: a large product range, lots of customers with their own agreed prices and discounts, and years of sales history.

Over the years we've seen IT, ERP and web usually handed to separate suppliers. The ERP partner looks after the ERP, and the web agency looks after the webshop. But the data has to be pulled out, prices have to be calculated exactly as they are in the ERP, and thousands of products need copy, images and specifications, kept up to date, before they can be used to sell. That work sits right between the two suppliers. That's where home-built or point-to-point integrations appear, and they're typically the ones that cause problems when one of the systems is updated, or when nobody is monitoring them.

Larger companies build that layer themselves. They have their own IT department and the budget to develop and run an integration layer, a shared data layer, a PIM and a single login across systems. For the established SME, Chainbox is the pragmatic middle layer, delivered as a hosted standard product that gives you many of the same options without having to run it yourself.

Since 2008 we've worked closely with ERP partners, consultants and developers who work with the ERP every day. Our long history means we've integrated with almost every version of the systems Danish SMEs have run on since we started (including systems that were already legacy in 2008).

How the solution is built

Overview

The solution has three layers

  • The core platform with integration, data mirror and security.

  • Applications such as Chainbox PIM and Sales Insight.

  • Customer portals and storefronts, where Chainbox Webshop is your webshop for B2B, B2C or both.

Every part is a standard product, and we handle setup, hosting and updates.

The core platform

Integration, data and identity

The ERP is the master. Chainbox keeps a data mirror of your ERP data up to date, and the rest of the solution works from the mirror, so every application uses the same data without putting load on the ERP. Orders from the webshop go the other way, back to the ERP. The webshop calculates prices from the same price lists and rules as the ERP.

Users and access are managed in one place in chainbox.io with single sign-on, two-factor authentication, roles and an audit log across the products.

Tools for your own staff

The applications sit on top of the core platform, including Chainbox PIM and Sales Insight. They run multi-tenant, so every customer gets the same ongoing development and the same security updates.

Because they work from the same data mirror, you don't need a new ERP integration when you start using a new application.

What your customers see

The last layer is what your customers and partners see. Here, Chainbox Webshop is the main solution.

The webshop is also a standard product, but it runs single-tenant in its own isolated environment. That means it can be customised with design, features and integrations and still get the same updates as everyone else.

If you'd rather build the front end in another webshop system, it gets its data through our API.

FAQ

We have integrations with Uniconta, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and NAV, and we have customers running Visma Business, Visma.net and Iptor. If you run a different system, get in touch. If it has an API, or runs on-premises on SQL Server, there's usually a way.

We handle the ERP integration, the data mirror, PIM and the webshop, and we host and monitor all of it. You maintain products, customers and prices in the ERP as usual, and product copy and images in PIM. Your ERP partner takes care of customisations and support in the ERP. If you choose to build the front end in another webshop system, you and your web agency are responsible for it.

PIM, customer logins and the webshop live on our platform, not in the ERP, so they stay put. We connect the new ERP alongside the old one, so you can test before you switch. Many of our customers have been through one or more ERP changes this way, for example from NAV or an older ERP system to Uniconta or Business Central.

We do. The whole solution is SaaS, and we handle hosting, security, monitoring and updates.

PIM, Sales Insight and the integrations run on shared systems on the platform. The webshop runs in its own isolated environment with its own Umbraco backend and its own microservice, and the front end runs redundantly, so it copes with failures and can be updated without downtime.

Data from the data mirror and PIM is replicated into a cache at the webshop, which it only reads from. That gives it fast access to your data without putting load on your ERP or the shared systems, and we monitor the whole chain from ERP to webshop as one.
